Very inspiring

The first thing I would like to say, is that this book is very inspiring. I felt I got more energy just by reading the book. But of course you get much more out of the book if you follow Mind Set - the program described in the book. As Vendera writes, it's not anything new and revolutionary with this program. Think positively and be merry, for example, is something we've heard many times before. But Vendera makes a system of it that helps you get the right focus, which in next turn can help you reach your goals. The system is easy, and does not take too much time of your day. The book is, like all Venderas books, easy to read and relatively short. And he writes in a way that is easily understood.

On the other hand, I would have liked to know the sources behind certain aspects of science he refers to. Source references does not exist.

The author's belief in God is clearly expressed in the book, and is in a way part of the program. He is telling you to pray evry day. For a non-believer, I felt that part was a bit difficult for me. At the same time I think that the essence of praying is to communicate, and regardless to whom or what, it does something positive with you.

The book also provides access to some bonus materials at the authour's website.

Personally, I think it's exciting to read books on personal development, whether mind set, diet or physical activity. Are you such a person too, read the book and you will be inspired. I think the book is for everyone, not just singers. And it is perhaps as much about gaining control over unwanted stress in your body, and get a better focus, than about all the fantastic things you want to create. It may come as a consequence. Because the book is so simple, straight forward and inspiring, it get 5 stars from me.

A guide to accomplishing what you want out of life!

Many people out there proclaim themselves to be self help gurus. I have been to a few weekend retreats and read some of the books. The problem with some of them is that they are impractical, don't make logical sense and leave out God entirely. While I was at some expensive retreat, I was offended that they made out God to be some genie in a bottle that existed just to do your bidding. How insulting.

When I heard that Jamie wrote a book on the creative mindset, I was intrigued to read it because Jaime is always practical, logical, down to earth, and loves God. In the beginning, the book sounded familiar, like when I read The Secret. But then I noticed many differences. It is not just, think about something and it will appear in your life. Jaime points out that there must be action on our part to make things happen. I appreciate that aspect.

Your day starts with prayers and oxygenating your body through deep breathing. He doesn't specify who God is. He processes Christianity in the book, but the priciples can be applied to any religion or deity you choose. Connect with your Higher Power. Then he shows how to relieve tension from the body. Very practical for all of us who hold tension everyday. The visualization techniques he presents are familiar to me.They are similar to some other authors.

He shows you how to Install a Program. Sounds very KGBish, doesn't it? Or right out of The Matrix lol. But not to worry, it is nothing like that. You decide what you want to accomplish in life, and then that is your program. You use the visualization technique to program what you want in the beginning of the day, and then go to it. It may sound easy, but it is not. It is simple to do, but it takes focus and faith! Be specific about what you want.

Writing ideas down is very important to the program. I have come up with some great stuff in the past, and regretfully, didn't write it down! I forgot what it was in a few hours. So keep a journal nearby.

The action part is not just sitting on the couch watching reruns and expecting your dreams to manifest. Be intentional about your choices as to whether they line up with your program. He challenges you to ask what you can do to better yourself. He shows you how to get those negative and damging thoughts out of your head that are not part of the program! Being thankful in your life is very important. Be thankful for the good things and the small things, and then bigger and better things come your way. That is the law of attraction. He gives personal examples of how he uses the mindset in his life to meet his goals. It is not just about you either. It is about bringing joy into other's lives and growing as a person in order to serve God and your fellow man.

The only thing that came accross my mind reading this was how I was going to find time to incorporate all this into my busy life? I guess I should install a program for that. I do get overwhelmed with time management and multitasking. I am trying to lose the weight I gained this year and I am going to install a program for that too. Many things in life are all in the mind.

So I recommend this book to all those that could use some direction, creativity and focus in order to live the life you envision. And then get out there and make it happen!

Be Creative!

If you're creative you're gonna love this book. Which I believe everyone is in some way. ANd you may be kind of stuck so this book will help you get more freedom in being creative. Having this "Creative Mindset" will help you become really creative. It always starts with your thoughts. What you think will become so in reality. I know this stuff works but it's the getting into the habit of doing that slows me down. Keeping a journal is one of the most important parts of the program which I have done and quit then started again. But I know I get better results while journaling. There is also the MInd/Body process which I've done and it probably works but I just have never been able to get into the habit of doing it. I do always do one part of the Mind/Body process, which is prayer. As mentioned in the book- God is everywhere and in everything we do. Always be thankful to God and pray to Him.
The rest of the book is my favorite part which deals with answering the five questions that you'll be answering throughout the day in your journal. This program has a lot to do with visualizing and feeling situations and using your emotions. When you can feel something your mind thinks it is real. And you've got to keep a positive mindset.

Great but here's why it isn't PERFECT

As expected. It is a great reference for the PE exam and will likely be a good reference for work as well. i just took the PE exam and this was one of 3 books that you would NEED to bring in. However, if you are using this with the 12th Edition of MERM, for example, the chapters and equation references do not line up since the chapters are different. If you are using the 12th edition MERM, you might want to get the previous Quick Reference Manual. However that really isnt a big deal.

Although the book is great, and there probably isn't a better quick reference manual, I have to give it 3 stars because I think it is missing a very important factor that I think would make this book perfect. The reference manual (not just this version, the previous versions as well) does not have the nomenclature, symbols and subscript list (with units) that is at the beginning of each MERM chapter for each section of equations. The equations in each chapter use a set of letters to identify different terms, however each chapter might use different letters, or symbols, and those terms might be in different units. For example, v for velocity might be assumed to be ft/min in one chapter and then ft/s in the next chapter. Of course, as you write out the equation and use the formula, you will include the units and make sure they work out, BUT when time is tight on the PE exam and you want to double check yourself, it would be nice to have the reference to the nomenclature list with units. For the test, I brought in a photo copy of the first page of each MERM chapter (which has this list) and brought it in. It helped me out a lot and gave me one less thing to think about while trying to "rush" through the exam.

If you're familiar with the CRANE Flow of Fluids book, you know that they have this nomenclature/units list up front. This Quick Ref for the ME PE exam should be updated. Even if I pass the PE, I would personally buy the updated version anyway to use for work.

Good, but variables not defined!

Pros: This has probably all the equations you will need. Many of them are formulated in a way that you don't need to do unit conversions, which saves a ton of time on the exam!

Cons: The variables are not defined in this book! This book also has no thermodynamic tables and has only a few properties.

It will work for you if you can also get your hands on a copy of the full reference with the variable definitions, and property tables. Still, you have to spend valuable prep time transferring symbol definitions that could have simply been printed at the beginning of each section.

If your taking the Mechanical PE, buy this now.

I recommend purchasing this right away. I waited for a month after I started studying the MERM and that was a mistake. This has probably 90% of what you;ll need from the MERM and is a great place to take notes, define variables and see the relevant equations in a section laid out one after the other. When working problems or taking practice tests this is where I spend 70% of my time. I havent taken the PE exam yet but I expect to spend more than 80% of my time flipping through this book and relying on my notes and annotations next to equations in here. There is something to be said for being intimately familiar with your tools and this will be my primary tool during the PE exam. Buy it right away and start taking notes next to each and every equation as you plow through the MERM. I've bought all the recommended books, MERM, this, PPI practice problems, 6 minute solutions books, Machine Design handbook 29, Shigleys (see my review on that book) and this is the one that I'm flipping through during problems constantly. Relying on my notes, the compressed pile of equations and looking for relationships between variables. This, the MERM and the test booklet itself will probably be 98% of what I use during the actual exam.
