Not As Bad As They Say

As a lab book, I can see why this would not be something you use on your own. I certainly understand the complaints leveled at it in the other comments, but it's honestly not that bad. If anything, it gives plenty of template practice and forced my instructor to go over topics he would normally ignore even though it's a good idea to know about exceptions. The exercises are detailed pretty thoroughly in terms of what they want out of the program. The only real complaint I have about this book is the price tag. Considering it's a glorified data structure exercise, it's ridiculous to pay this much for, frankly, what you can find at the end of chapter exercises of a normal textbook. I do understand that in industry, you would pretty much just be handed a header file like these and be told that they want you to implement it, but I can't wrap my head around charging $60 for this alone. That aside, the practice given here is pretty good for templates, exceptions, I/O, and all the data structures.

Hee no so good, but doable

Some labs are fine and very detail of what you have to to, but others are just a mess and have not explicit instructions of what you have to to and even has errors on the given code. It's highly evident that because so many authors written this lab manual, the book in overall lack of Constance and varies in quality.

Warning DO NOT BUY, unless you have access to the accompanying materials.
Additional don't buy this at all...
A review of this book is impossible, as its used in tandem with a class. That is to say, your lab instructor will be providing you with accompanying materials such as half done data structures etc. There lies the heart of the problem and why this book and this approach. Your given complicated code, you didn't write, in order to "help" you understand the data structure your trying to create. Inevitability, the code to "show" your structure, say for instance a program that prints out your "queue". Will make certain choices about how your queue should work. Meanwhile, your idea of a queue while correct, clashes and your left debugging this code. Or worse, changing your plans to fit it. Your Lab instructor will inevitable make the situation much worse or much better depending on their involvement. In the end however, the entire book should just be done away with. It is, as textbooks go, the worst piece of incomprehensibly dribble i have ever had the misfortune of being forced to use.
