About the Author
Shlomo Vaknin, C.Ht, has been a professional therapist for more than a decade. He is the author of several books, including the best seller "The Big Book of NLP". Shlomo is the founder and editor-in-chief of the international publication, NLP Weekly Magazine (est. 2001, circ. 70K). Shlomo is an enthusiastic animals welfare advocate and participates actively in several wildlife conservation projects.

What I got from it...

I used the ideas and techniques in this book for the last six months and got a lot out of it...
First and most important - it's down to earth. It's easy to read and understand, no jargon and no space fillers.
I use NLP for my own personal development goals, and occasionally to help out a friend in need. You can imagine, having this "cookbook" of self-help techniques is very helpful.
I am not interested in starting a practice as a practitioner of NLP or a corporate trainer, so I see no good reason in paying 6,500 euro for those weekend training programs.
I only want to "fine tune" myself, to forget a few bad habits and to learn a few new skills faster. In improving myself, I take Tony Robbins' advice:
"We all know that if we flip the switch, the light will go on or off. We don't need to know how the electricity supplies power and how the bulb converts that power into light. Most of us just need to know that it'll work. Don't waste time trying to understand everything, life's too short."
I just wanted to switch on the lights! This book helps me do that, again and again. I do not spend time on theories, I just try out ideas and enjoy the results.
NLP is not complicated, and if you're interested in trying it out and even change a habit or two - go for the techniques, follow the step by step instructions, and you'll get results.
The hardest part of reading NLP books is choosing the right one. I needed a simple practical reference to "everything NLP", and this is simply the best one out there. I recommend.

Great Book!

This book is probably the only NLP book you'll need. If you're new to NLP, a beginner's book(which the author has written) would go good with this one. But only if you want to know more detail about "Why" a pattern or technique works.
This book is easy to read and has no filler, which can be common with NLP books. Which I can understand to a point when it comes to motivating someone to get excited about learning the material and explaining why NLP works. If you're looking for a straight the the point book on NLP then this is it.

does not live up to its promise

This book gives a cursory view of 350 so called NLP techniques. (with double line spacing and a great deal of white space on each page). You will learn more from the book by understanding its title/marketing than actually purchasing it. "Big" . . ."Expanded". . ."350" . . ."+". Tapping into the consumer's greed and desire to know everything is this books major success. Yes I was duped. Go back to the foundational books if you want to learn NLP. Not artificial expansion of them. Worth no more than $20 (with shipping). What's next: Insider Guide to 475 cutting edge NLP secrets for communication mastery? that's the NLP you need to learn to bypass critical thought.
