A Baby for Dry Creek, by Janet Tronstad

Blushing bride Chrissy Hamilton was strong-willed, but nothing prepared her for her groom's infidelity. So she escaped to Dry Creek, where fresh air and sunshine would heal her heart, renew her faith and help her baby thrive. And when she met thoughtful rancher Reno Redfern, she devised a story to tell the folks back home.

When Reno heard the rumors that Chrissy had named him as the father of her child, he was floored—especially since they'd never dated. But, chivalrous instincts aroused, he decided to rescue this damsel in distress and complete her family. Though their relationship began in deceit, could Reno show Chrissy that his feelings for her were as true as his faith?

Wonderful little read
By A. Marsh
I first picked up the book because of the synopsis on the back - the story of a girl naming a perfectly innocent man as her baby's father and then the promise of it all being resolved in some faith-affirming way (it IS an inspired romance, after all) was just too trashy to be true. And it was. I guess the synopsis writer never read the book itself. Instead of the inane plot promised on the back, I found a new favorite author and book. Before reading the book, ignore the back - I spent half the book trying to figure out what was going on as I tried to resolve the synopsis with what I was reading. To summise the differences, Chrissy never named Reno as the father, she didn't initially want to return to Dry Creek, and Reno only went to go get her because she's "almost family," what with his sister being married to Chrissy's cousin. In all it's a delightful book with a wonderful cast of characters that are quirky and endearing and a slightly skewed romance-novel plot made all the better by Janet Tronstad's tongue-in-cheek style. I laughed to the point of tears in a few places, especially the ending involving bar-b-que forks and a tractor chase. Keep an eye on her name as she's proven in these little novels to be an extreamly gifted writer.

A Baby for Dry Creek
By Janet Tronstad

I loved this book by Janet Tronstad! A Baby for Dry Creek is about kindness, forgiveness, and trusting another person to love you for who you are. Chrissy Hamilton has a son out of wedlock. Since she grew up with a single parent, she knows the way people will act toward her and her son. The few times she had been to church, she heard how the people whispered about her and her mother. Reno Redfern had met Chrissy in the previous book, A Hero for Dry Creek. She ended up returning to Las Vegas and Reno figured that's where she belonged. Like his mother, she wouldn't be happy living in a small town without the big city lights.
However, when Chrissy gets into trouble, who is her rescuer? Reno Redfern decides maybe he can show her the finer points of living in a small town. He goes to get her and bring her back to Dry Creek. Chrissy is afraid she will get the cold shoulder from everyone once they find out she has a child. Can Reno prove to her he can love her for who she is? Will Chrissy accept the kindness from the community members of Dry Creek, or is she like Reno fears, more attuned to life in the big city? Before Chrissy can decide, she needs to learn how to trust again and to accept help from others. Sometimes we can't do it all on our own and need help from friends, family, and especially God. It doesn't make us weak; it makes us stronger. Make sure you pick up this great book by Janet Tronstad and check out her other books in this series!

Great read but some issues
By M. Palmer
The story itself was GREAT! We met Crissy in the previous book when she shows up in town with Reno to see her cousin Garrett. Dry Creek receives a letter from an attorney that names Reno as a possible father to Crissy's baby and the people of Dry Creek urge him to go to California and bring her home where she and the baby will be safe.

He does.

Crissy is a very, very, very independent person. She will NOT take a handout from ANYBODY! Her "I'll pay you" really got on my nerves. When Mrs, Gargrive offered to show Crissy the way, she said "I'll pay you."

This was such a GREAT book BUT the author has totally lost the timing of these stories. The book is clear that it is early spring.

Crissy came home at Thanksgiving to Dry Creek. I don't know how long she stayed, but that doesn't matter. The book says "7 1/2 months later" Here's how I see this:
Late November (Thanksgiving): Crissy comes to Dry Creek she may or may not have known she was pregnant at that time, but she had left her fiance by then.

February: Nikki is married. Apparently Crissy was still there at this point. She HAD to have known she was pregnant and was probably even beginning to show.

Early Spring (7 1/2 months later????): Word comes to Dry Creek that Crissy is now a mother.

Nope, doesn't add up to me. That's why this book only scored four stars.
